JORDAN

The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan consists to 80% of desert areas. One third of the total population of approx. 6 million lives in the capital Amman.

The country is divided in twelve Gouverne­ments with a governor at the top designated by the government and confirmed by the king.

The growth rate of the economy of 2.1% (2007) is scarcely under the one from Egypt. The gross domestic product (GDP) amounted to approx. 2000 euros per head in the year 2005. On the Human Development Index of the UNDP Jordan takes place 86 (2007).

Jordan consideres the information and communication technologies (ICT) as important to the employment. In 2003 „the Education initiative“ was founded, which is targeting in particular towards the use of ICT to improve the educational opportunities of the population.

The national system of vocational training in Jordan essentially consists of three areas:

- the technical vocational training in „Community colleges“,

- the vocational education in schools under supervision of the Ministry of Education and

the formal and non formal vocational training by the Vocational Training Corporation (VTC).
